Eroding Bank to Sandstone Walls, Before & After
A bare backyard with a crumbling, washed-out bank rebuilt with sandstone-block retaining walls, a planted slope and a levelled yard ready for lawn.
Every decent rain was pulling a little more of this bank down into the yard, and the dried-out lawn below wasn’t worth saving. Sandstone-block retaining walls now hold the slope, stepped around the corner of the yard with a capped edge you can sit on. The bank above is mulched and planted with hardy natives and grasses to lock it together as they establish, and the ground below has been levelled and topsoiled ready for a new lawn. The first two photos show the yard as we found it in late summer; the rest were taken at handover in winter.
